Osso VR launches surgical training app for Apple Vision Pro -Dlight News

Virtual training company Osso VR announced the launch of Osso Health, a surgical training app that will leverage the Apple Vision Pro to focus on common orthopedic procedures, such as carpal tunnel release and total knee replacement.

Osso VR is a virtual reality surgical training and assessment platform that allows users to practice surgical techniques, independently or with a team, in an immersive environment.

The Osso Health app simulates medical procedures with a 3D interface controlled entirely by the user. Users can walk through the key steps of a procedure using Apple Vision Pro’s spatial computing.

Osso Health is now available on the App Store.

“Osso Health for Apple Vision Pro opens up exciting possibilities for the future of immersive procedural education. Apple Vision Pro unlocks new opportunities to scale spatial computing in healthcare with groundbreaking display quality and virtually lag-free learning experience, helping solve important challenges to education in healthcare,” Dr. Justin Barad, cofounder and chief strategy officer at Osso VR, said in a statement.

THE LARGER TREND

Osso VR secured $14 million in Series A funding in 2020 with investment from Kaiser Permanente Venture, SignalFire, GSR Ventures, Leslie Ventures and Scrum Ventures.

The San Francisco-based startup closed $27 million in Series B funding a year later with the intention of expanding its library and increasing capabilities. It also added a multimodal assessment tool that allows users to test their understanding of workflows. The tool also allows educators and health systems to track a user’s progress.

In 2022, Osso scored a whopping $66 million in Series C funding with participation from Oak HC/FT, SignalFire, Kaiser Permanente Venture, GSR Ventures and Tiger Global Management. The company said it would use the money to hire new staff and expand access to its training tools.

The virtual reality company welcomed Greg Born as CEO in February. Born was hired to scale and grow Osso’s virtual training platform. Born’s career spanned executive level positions at Amazon, GE and Oracle.
