Sunderland took a slim lead in their Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-final with Luton after a 2-1 first-leg win on Saturday night.
Elijah Adebayo had put Luton into an early lead at the Stadium of Light, but Sunderland turned the tie in their favor thanks to a stunning free-kick from Amad Diallo and a second-half goal from Trai Hume.
It gave the Black Cats the lead but everything is still on the line in the second leg at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night.
Sunderland hit back to get ahead
Sunderland dominated the early stages in front of a raucous crowd, but Luton took advantage of their physicality on 11 minutes when Adebayo pounced on a ball bouncing around a corner to fire up front after the home team failed to clear.
By the 39th minute, Sunderland were level. And it was impressive from Diallo, who fired a free kick into the top corner after Alex Pritchard rolled the ball his way.
The change was completed after 62 minutes. Jack Clarke’s cross found the head of Hume, who guided a header into the bottom corner.

Andy Hinchcliffe on Sky Sports Football:
“He scored the goal, but his defensive work, because of the one he’s in the side, has got most things right against Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris.”
