If you’ve seen any of the “John Wick” movies, you’re well aware of the violence and action, but some movies have plenty of driving going on. The latest, “John Wick: Chapter 4,” is now in theaters, again starring Keanu Reeves as the killer of “Special Focus.” It turns out, though, that he’s such a good driver that the film’s stunt drivers can take a day or two off. Racer and former “Top Gear America” host Tanner Foust was allowed to be John Wick’s driving stunt double, but said Keanu took the action so well that Foust rated his drifting skills an 8 out of 10 — high praise from one of the highest around. Known drivers. Foust attributes some of Keanu’s skills to his motorcycle experience, which he said led to quick learning time behind the wheel. Faust spent several months training Reeves in Berlin to prepare for the film, and said the team devised a set of maneuvers that Canu could reliably perform over and over again. The resulting shots are impressive – drifting with one hand while reloading, and reaching a certain limit without going over it. Speaking of cars, the Vic films have featured some sweet classic metal, including the Mustang Boss 429 from the original 2014 movie. When that car was destroyed, Vic shifted to the Chevelle SS. In the fourth movie, Wick/Reeves pilots a 1971 Plymouth Cuda, a car he mastered with Faust’s help in scenes like the car chase through Paris (doorless, even) in the clip above. John Wick 4 is still in theaters but is coming to streaming services soon. If you’re hoping to check out the vehicle’s action, be advised that it comes with super-healthy doses of gun and fist violence. The good news is that the movies package the carnage in an entertaining and sometimes funny way, so it’s not a drag to watch.
