India has one of the world’s fastest rollouts of 5G and by the end of 2023, India will be ahead of most countries, said Ericsson Global Chief Borje Ekholm.
Speaking exclusively to ANI, Ekholm said: “I would say that by the end of 2023 it will be significantly ahead of most other countries in the world.”
Speaking about India as a business destination, Ekholm said India has a strong pool of good software engineers.
“This will drive the next stage of growth in India and that makes it a very important market for us. We already have almost 25,000 employees here in the country. We continue to grow and increase our presence in research and development, software development, service delivery, AI, automation and all these areas. We provide the critical infrastructure, software and hardware that build the 5G network. So we are very excited about our presence in India.”
Telecom providers in India in particular have started offering high-speed 5G services in the country as of October 2022.
The government issued spectrum allocation letters to telecom operators in August 2022, urging them to prepare for the rollout of 5G services in the country.
The Telecom Ministry had received total bids worth 1.50 lakhcrore from the 5G spectrum auction.
What is 5G and how is it different from current 3G and 4G services?
5G is the fifth generation mobile network that can transmit large amounts of data at very high speeds.
Compared to 3G and 4G, 5G has very low latency, which will improve user experience in various areas. Low latency describes the efficiency of processing a very large amount of data messages with minimal delay.
