Play was halted at the SDC Championship due to high winds, but not before Julien Brun stepped into the driver’s seat with a second-round 67.

Frenchman Julien Brun made the most of the favorable conditions to lead the inaugural SDC Championship before high winds caused play to be suspended.

Brun was among the early starters at the St Francis Links and scored seven birdies and two bogeys in a second round 67 to set the clubhouse target at eight under par.

Sweden’s Jens Dantorp compiled an excellent 63 to come in at seven under par along with England’s Matthew Baldwin and South Africa’s Albert Venter before play was halted just before 2pm local time.

No further play was possible and the second round will resume on Saturday.

Speaking about the contrasting conditions on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, Brun said: “(It was) very different. It’s the first time I’ve seen the field without wind.”

“It was definitely a lot more responsive and the greens were better too, so you could birdie more and have more fun. I’m looking forward to it (the weekend).

“It’s nice to be in contention and have a chance, but obviously there’s a long way to go.”
